    • On October 24, 1820 Fielding NEILL and George MARSHALL signed a marriage bond for the marriage of Fielding NEILL and Mariah MARSHALL, daughter of George. A copy of the bond is on file.

      On November 2, 1820 "Those to marry Fielding NEIL and Mariah MARSHALL executed the 2nd of November." (Shelby County Marriage Book 1, page 165).

      "This shall oblige us our heirs to be held and firmly bound into the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the just and full sum of L20 for the payment of which we bind ourselves our heirs _______________ in firmly given under our hands and seal this 24th date of Oct 1820, Rendered however upon condition there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the marriage of Fielding NEILL and Mariah MARTIAL daughter of George MARTIAL he haven given his consent. From the above obligation to be void else remain in full force and virtue. signed by Fielding NEILL George MARSHALL, James OWEN."

    • In the Jefferson Count Book of Deeds it had "This Indenture made the twenty first day of October one thousand eight hundred and twenty between Joseph BARLETT and Nancy, his wife of the county of Floyd and state of Indiana of the ones parlana Fielding NEILL of the county of Shelby and state of Kentucky of the other part Witnesseth that the said Joseph and Nancy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars current money of the United States to then part and secured to be paid as follows five hundred and sixty dollars part of ___ day of ___two hundred and twenty dollars secured to be part on the first day of March 1820 and the like sum of the first day of March 1821. The receipt there of is hereby acknowledged. I have granted bargained and sold aliened released __________ conveyed and confirmed. And by these presents I do grant bargain and sell alicu (sic) release ___ off convey and confirm into the said Fielding NEILL and his heirs and a ____ one certain tract or par of land with all the _________________ lying and being in the county of Jefferson and state last mentioned and on the waters of Brush and can own and bounded as follows beginning at the sugar tree and made _____ sampling there south and hundred and ten poles to which Hickory popular and dogwood corned of John CARMICK'S? land thence south seventy eight degrees west, one hundred and seventy paces to _______ and walnut sampling thence north one hundred twenty poles to his beeches thence cast one hundred and nineteen poles to the beginning supposed to contain ninety acres and all the estate right title claim interest and a fee of thence the said Joseph BARLETT and Nancy, his wife of his and to the same F. Hare and F. Hold the said tract of parcel of land with all the appertances? onto the said NEILL and his heirs and assigns to his and there only proper use and like of forever and the said Joseph BARLETT and Nancy his wife do agree with the said NEILL and heirs and assigns that the said Joseph wife are seized of a good sure? Feet and undefeade? ther estate in fee and simple of __ to the said tract or parcel of land with all the apertures that they have full power and lawful authority to sell and convey the same into the said NEILL and to his heirs and assigns forever and that they the said Joseph and Nancy his wife well and their have executers and a administrators shall marraid? and forever defend the said tract or parcel of land with all the appurt? unto the said NEILL and to his heirs and assigns against all and every person or persons whatever lawful claiming or to claim the same. In ____ where of __ said Joseph and Nancy his wife have here to set their hands and seals on the day and years first written. Signed and Sealed in the presence of Joseph and Nancy BARLETT. The clerk of the county court of Jefferson County in the state of Kentucky do certify that on this day Joseph BARLETT and Nancy his wife came personally before me in my office and acknowledge and delivered the foregoing deed as and for their act and deed that __________ and Nancy __ and apart from the said Joseph her husband and having shown and explained the said deed to her she again acknowledged and delivered the same deed and for her act and deed and declared she had done as of her own free will and consent without the threat of persuasion or compulsion of her said husband and was willing the said deed showed the recorded and did not wish to retract hers and acknowledges and that they have recorded the same in my office witnessed my hand this 21st day of October 1820 Signed by M. POPE."

      In the History of Kentucky, Volume 6 by PERRIN it had
      "Marshall NEAL is a native of Oldham County, and was born November 9, 1830. Fielding NEAL, his father, was also a native of Oldham County, and married Miss Maria MARSHALL, of Woodford County. John NEAL, the grandfather of Marshall NEAL, was a farmer and a veteran of the Revolution, who came from Virginia in 1796 and located in Woodford County, Ky., moved to Jefferson and finally settled in Oldham County...."

      In the 1820 Shelby County Tax list, he was known as Fielding NEILL
      In Shelby County, Kentucky Marriages 1792-1833 by HASSKARL it had on page 95: NEILL, Fielding and Mariah MARSHALL, M- 2 Nov. 1820, B- George MARSHALL, father of Mariah."

      An Oldham County Deed Book Index had "BOOK C 1832-1834 ... NEAL from OGLESBY ... pg. 425" An Oldham County Tax book had "Year/Book#: 1832-2, Name: MARSHALL, GEO NEAL, FIELDING, Water Course: Floyds Fork"

      In the "Oldham County Index of Deeds 1825 - 67" it had: Date: Oct. 3, 1835; Grantee: NEAL, Fielding; Grantor: Micah? _____?; Acres: ____?; Waters: ____?; Book: ____?; Page: ____?." The rest of the entry was not copied.

      In the Oldham County Deed Book D (1836-1840), it had "This Indenture made and entered into this 13th day of November in the year of our lord 1836 by and between Fielding NEAL and Maria, his wife of one part and George MARSHALL of the other part both parties of the county of Oldham and state of Kentucky Witnisseth that whereas in consequence of the cruel, inhumane and barbarous treatment of the said Fielding NEAL to the said Maria his wife a suit has been communicated in the Oldham County court the said Maria against the said Fielding for Alimony and a divorce and whereas the said treatment so had by the said Fielding toward his said wife was principany? _____ to the inter-private habits of the said Fielding and the said Fielding having solemnly pronounced to the said Maria that he will reform his habits and ever after treat the said Maria in a kind and affectionate manner and never treat her in a way different from the way a wife should be treated by her husband and has agreed to transfer his property to the said George MARSHALL in trust for the separate use and benefit of the said Maria NEAL during the joint lives of the said Fielding and Maria upon the ____ out conditions herein after mentioned on the said Fielding execute these presents the Maria is to have her said suit for alimony and divorce dismissed at the cost of said Fielding and is to return ________ with said Fielding as long as Fielding shall continue to treat her with kindance and affection that a husband should treat his wife, now in consideration of the promises and to carry into effect the aforesaid agreement and for the further consideration of our dollar in hand paid by the said George MARSH the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. The said Fielding NEAL and Mariah his wife have granted bargains, sold revised? released, aliened conveyed and confirmed into the said George MARSHALL and to his heirs and assigns all the singular the following described property (to-wit). One tract of land the County of Oldham on the waters of Floyds fork being the sauce __ which the said Fielding NEAL now lives and which he said Fielding purchased of Preston ________ containing about one hundred and forty four acres, but be the same more or less. Alls the following six negro slaves, Towit, Mary, a negro woman and the following personal property to wit, 3 work horses and one coal ploughs and all the other farming belonging to said Fielding on said form belonging to said Fielding, on said farm, nine heard of cattle, about fifty hogs, four beds and their furniture belonging to the said Fielding also all the corn and tobacco now on said farm belonging to said Fielding, together with all and singular the appirtainances? and hereditawits? to the said tract of land belonging or in any way appertaining all the future increase of the said ___ to have and to hold the said property above bargained and sold to the said George MARSHALL his heirs and assigns forever. In trust never less and for the following purposes and uses to-wit the said Fielding NEAL and Maria, his wife is to hold and enjoy the use of all the said property so long as both said live provided the said Fielding shall ____ their joint lives at all times.................................... Witnessed by J.J. MARSHALL and George MARSHALL; Signed by Fielding NEAL, Maria NEAL, George MARSHALL. I William D. MITCHELL clerk of the County Court aforesaid to certify that the deed between Fielding NEAL and Maria his wife of the one part and George MARSHALL of the other part was on the 7th day of March 1837 said deed being produced to me in my office and acknowledged by the said George MARSHALL Party to the ___to be his act and deed a…

      I do certify that on the said 7th day of March 1837 said deed being produced as aforesaid was proved to be the act and deed of the said Fielding NEAL by the oath of J. J. MARSHALL one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and laid over for further pr and that on this day said deed was fully proved in my said office to be the act and deed of the said Fielding NEAL by the oath of George MARSHALL the other witness thereto and ordered to be recorded and that said deed together with this certificate both been duly admitted to record in my said office.       An Oldham County Tax book had "Year/Book#:1837-1, Name: NEAL, FIELDEN, Water Course: FLOYDS FORK

      In the "Oldham County Index of Deeds 1825 - 67" it had: Date: Mar. 10, 1837; Grantor: NEAL, Fielding & wife; Grantee: George MARSHALL; Acres: 144; Waters: FF; Book: D; Page: 73."

      An Oldham County Deed Book Index had "BOOK D 1836-1840 .. NEAL to MARSHALL .... pg. 73 13 NOV...1st. part, FIELDING NEAL, his wife, MARIA; 2nd part, GEORGE MAR cruel inhuman treatment to his wife, MARIA, a suit for alimony and to transfer all his property to said GEORGE MARSHALL"



      In the "Oldham County Index of Deeds 1825 - 67" it had: Date: July 19?, 1840 or 41; Grantor: NEAL, Fielding & wife; Grantee: James, Thos, & Beverly? VINCENT; Acres: 150; Waters: AS?; Book: E; Page: 163?."

      In the "Oldham County Index of Deeds 1825 - 67" it had: Date: July 19, 1841; Grantee: NEAL, Fielding Trustee?; Grantor: Fountain? _____?; Acres: ____?; Waters: ____?; Book: ____?; Page: ____?." The rest of the entry was not copied.

      In "History of Shelby County, Kentucky" by George L. WILLIS it had on page 83: "The first Methodist Church in Shelby County was organized in the Cardwell neighborhood, on what was then known as the Fielding NEEL farm on the Rockbridge pike. It used log house, and was given the name of Rockbridge by some of the charter members, who came from Rockbridge County, Virginia." No date was given but it appears to be around the turn of the century, 1796-1804.

      In the "Roll of Field and Staff of Trotters Regiment, Kentucky Volunteers, of the War of 1812. The Roll of Captain Joseph REDING'S Company, Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Militia - Commanded by Colonel George TROTTER" it had: "NEAL, Charles - Private: Newport, Sept. 1, 1813; NEAL, Fielding - Private: Newport, Sept. 1, 1813; NEAL, John - Private: Newport, Sept. 1, 1813."

      An Oldham County Deed Book Index had "BOOK E 1840-1844 NEAL TO VINCENT pg. 162 NEAL FROM BOULWARE ... pg 163"

      In the "Oldham County Will Book 2" page 458 it had the inventory and appraisement of the estate of Fielding NEAL by Maria NEAL. It included five slaves. It was dated Nov. 7, 1844. A copy of the list is in the file. No will was located.

      In the "Oldham County Index of Deeds 1825 - 67" it had: Date: Dec. 2?, 1847; Grantor: NEAL, Fielding; Grantee: Division of Land; Acres: Inventory?; Waters: NS?; Book: F; Page: 40?."

      In the Oldham County Deed Book F (1844-1849) page 527, it had "We the undersigned commissioners appointed by the Oldham County court at their January Term 1847 to divide the lands and slaves of Fielding NEAL decd, among his heirs, report that we did on the 26th day of January, after laying off to Mrs. NEAL, widow of said decedent fifty acres of land and setting aside to her two of the slaves, Mariah & Tillman agreeably to former arrangement, which she agreed to take in lien of her Dower and estate the said fifty acres bounded as follows. Beginning at the Honey Locust, thence with OGLEBY's line S20 E to two Dogwoods, thence 70 E60 thence N20 W125 par to a stone, thence S70 W67.5. We proceeded to make the division and allottment as follows, viz Lot 1: Allotted to Elizabeth NEAL, is bounded as follows, viz. Beginning at a stone corner to T. B. OGLESBY, thence with his lein, N70 E per to stone corner to Dower, thence with a line of the same, N20 W60 par to stone thence S70 W44 par to the Dogwoods T. BEECH, thence S20 E60 to the beginning, counting 16.5 acres. Lor 2: allotted to Naomi NEAL, bundled as follows, viz. Beginning at a Beech in OGLESBY's line, corner to Dover, thence N70 E23 par to a stone, thence N20 W125 par to a stonthence S 70 W 23 par to a stone, corner to Dower and with a line of the same, S20 E125 par to the beginning containing 18 acres. Lot #3: Allotted to Marshall NEAL bundled as follows. Beginning at the corner to lot 2, thence with a line of the same, S20 E23 pole to a stone, thence N70 E84 poles to a stone. Lot #4: Allotted to George NEAL Begiing at the stone ___________________ (can't read) Lot #5:Allotted to Mary Mathes, is bounded as follows, viz, Beginniat the stone at the original line and corner to lot 4, thence with a line of the same, S70 W30 par stone in a line of Lot 2, thence with the same S20 E31 poles to a stone, thence count 84 poles to a stone in Carson's Line, thence with the same, N20 Wpolwa to the beginning containing 16.25 acres. Lot #6: Allotted to Martha DUNAWAY is bounded as follows, viz. Beginning at the S.E. corner of lot 5, thence with line of the same, S70 W84 poles to a stone in a line of lot 2, thence with the line the same, S20 E32 pole to a stone in OGLESBY's line, thence with the same N70 #84 pole to a stone, thence N20 W32 to the beginning containing 16.75 acres. We allotted the slaves as follows, (No. 1) we allot to Elizabeth NEAL, two negro boys, Andrew and Martin, valued at four hundred and twenty five dollars . This lot has to pay to lot 5 $16.66 and 2/3 cents. (No.2) We allot Naomi NEAL, a negro girl Mahalah, valued at $400. This lot has to pat lot 5 $16.66 and 2/3 cents. (No.
      We allot to Marshall NEAL, Edmond, valued at $375. this lot has to receive from Lot #4 $8.33 and 1/3 cents. (No. 4) - we allot to George NEAL - Barlett, values at $250. and Thomas values at $200. This lot has to pay to lot No. 6 $58.33 and 1/3 cents and to Lot #5 $8.33 and 1/3 cents. (No. 5) We allot to Mary MATHES, which she has received, one negro boy Edmond valued at $250. and money to amounting in all to #325, which lot has to receive from Lot No. 1 $41.66 and 2/3 cents and from L4 eighteen dollars and sixty six and 2/3 cents. (No.6) We allot to Mrs. Martha DUNNAWAY, which she has received, one negro girl, Emily valued at $250. and other property amounting in all to $325., which lot has to receive from Lot No. 4 Fifty Eig Dollars and Thirty three cents. All of which is respectfully submitted. Given under our handle this 26 January 1847. Signed by Wm M. POWELL, Thos. B. OGLESBY, and Wm CAPLINGER. Kentucky, Oldham County Court, December Term 1847.       In the "Oldham County Ky. Court Order Book 3 1838 - 1849" on page 447 it said "On motion of Thomas DUNAWAY and Martha DUNAWAY his wife, Mary MATHEWS and Maria NEAL guardian for George NEAL, Marshall NEAL, Naomia NEAL, and Elizabeth NEAL, is ordered that Marshall POWELL, Thomas B. OGLESBY and William C. CAPLUNGH? be and they are hereby appointed Commissioners who being sworn are required to divide the lands and slaves of Fielding NEAL, decd; ____? Maria NEAL having relinquished her right there to among the heirs of O? Fielding NEAL at whom instance motion is made that they report to this court."

      In the 1850 Oldham County, Ky. census, he was not listed with George, Marshall and Naomia? NEAL.

      In "Oldham County Marriage Licenses 1854 - 64" it had an entry for James M. LONG and Elizabeth NEAL, the daughter of Fielding NEAL, deceased. It was dated Sept. 1, 1855.

      An Oldham County Deed Book Index had "BOOK I 1853-1856 NEAL to LONG .9. pg 438, NEAL from FREEMAN ... pg 437, BOOK J from 1856 NEAL HEIRS to N LONG ... pg 79, BOOK K 1858-1861 NEAL from LONG .9. pg 216, NEAL from OGLESBY ... pg 522"

      In the 1864 marriage record for his son George, he listed the POB of his father as Jefferson County, Ky.
