Marshall Neal was born June 4, 1936 in Louisville, Jefferson County. According to Marshall's birth certificate (Vol. 54 and Cert. # 26542) Marshall Neal was born at 2:55pm at Saint Anthony Hospital. His full name as reported on his birth certificate was Marshall Lee Neal. Marshall's father was listed as James Marshall Neal from Crestwood, Kentucky. At the time of Marshall's birth, James, his father, was 39 years old and was born in Louisville, Kentucky. James Marshall worked as an automobile mechanic at Walling Motor Company at the time of Marshall Lee's birth and had been working there since 1924. According to the birth certificate, Marshall Lee's mother was Margaret Elizabeth Bush and was 23 years old at the time of his birth. Margaret Elizabeth who was born in Danville, ILL worked as a housewife. Marshall Lee was their first child.

In the Oldham County Deed Book F (1844-1849) page 527, it had "We the undersigned commissioners appointed by the Oldham COunty court at their January Term 1847 to divide the lands and slaves of Fielding NEAL decd, among his heirs, report that we did, on the 26th day of January, after laying off to Mrs. NEAL, widow of said decedant fifty acres of land and setting aside to her two of the slaves, Miriah & Tilman agreeably to former arrangement, which she agreed to take in lein of her Dower and estate, the said fifty acres bounded as follows. Beginning at the Honey Locust, thence with OGLEBY's line S20 E to two Dogwoods, thence 70 E60 thence N20 W125 par to a stone, thence S70 W67.5. We proceeded to make the division and allottment as follows, viz. Lot 1: Allotted to Elizabeth NEAL, is bounded as follows, viz. Beginning at a stone corner to T. B. OGLESBY, thence with his lein, N70 E per to stone corner to Dower, thence with a line of the same, N20 W60 par to stone thence S70 W44 par to the Dogwoods T. BEECH, thence S20 E60 to the beginning, counting 16.5 acres. Lor 2: allotted to Naomi NEAL, bundled as follows, viz. Beginning at a Beech in OGLESBY's line, corner to Dover, thence N70 E23 par to a stone, thence N20 W125 par to a stone, thence S 70 W 23 par to a stone, corner to Dower and with a line of the same, S20 E125 par to the beginning containing 18 acres. Lot #3: Allotted to Marshall NEAL bundeled as follows. Beginning at the corner to lot 2, thence with a line of the same, S20 E23 pole to a stone, thence N70 E84 poles to a stone. Lot #4: Allotted to George NEAL Begiing at the stone _________________________________________ (can't read) Lot #5:Allotted to Mary Mathes, is bounded as follows, viz, Beginning at the stone at the original line and corner to lot 4, thence with a line of the same, S70 W30 par stone in a line of Lot 2, thence with the same S20 E31 poles to a stone, thence sount 84 poles to a stone in Carsons Line, thence with the same, N20 W31 polwa to the beginning containing 16.25 acres. Lot #6: Alloted to Martha DUNAWAY is bounded as follows, viz. Beginning at the S.E. corner of lot 5, thence with line of the same, S70 W84 poles to a stone in a line of lot 2, thence with the line of the same, S20 E32 pole to a stone in OGLESBY's line, thence with the same N70 #84 pole to a stone, thence N20 W32 to the beginning containing 16.75 acres. We allotted the slaves as follows, (No. 1) we allot to Elizabeth NEAL, two negro boys, Andrew and Martin, vauled at four hundred and twenty five dollars . This lot has to pay to lot 5 $16.66 and 2/3 cents. (No.2) We allot Naomi NEAL, a negro girl Mahalah, valued at $400. This lot has to pat lot 5 $16.66 and 2/3 cents. (No. 3) We allot to Marshall NEAL, Edmond, valued at $375. this lot has to receive from Lot #4 $8.33 and 1/3 cents. (No. 4) - we allot to George NEAL - Barlett, values at $250. and Thomas values at $200. This lot has to pay to lot No. 6 $58.33 and 1/3 cents and to Lot #5 $8.33 and 1/3 cents. (No. 5) We allot to Mary MATHES, which she has received, one negro boy Edmond valued at $250. and money to amounting in all to #325, which lot has to receive from Lot No. 1 $41.66 and 2/3 cents and from Lot 4 eighteen dolloars and sixty six and 2/3 cents. (No.6) We allot to Mrs. Martha DUNNAWAY, which she has received, one negro girl, emily vauled at $250. and other property amounting in allto $325., which lot has to receive from Lot No. 4 Fifty Eight Dollars and Thirty three cents. All of which is respectfully submitted. Given under our handle this 26 January 1847. Signed by Wm M. POWELL, Thos. B. OGLESBY, and Wm CAPLINGER. Kentucky, Oldham County Court, December Term 1847. In the "Oldham County Ky. Court Order Book 3 1838 - 1849" on page 447 it said "On motion of Thomas DUNAWAY and Martha DUNAWAY his wife, Mary MATHEWS and Maria NEAL guardian for George NEAL, Marshall NEAL, Naomia NEAL, and Elizabeth NEAL, is ordered that Marshall POWELL, Thomas B. OGLESBY and William C. CAPLUNGH? be and they are hereby appointed Commissioners who being sworn are required to divide the lands and slaves of Fielding NEAL, decd; ____? Maria NEAL having relinguished her right thereto among the heirs of O? Fielding NEAL at whom instance motion is made that they report to this court."

WOOD is about to obtain a license to marry Mrs. Maria NEAL of this Oldham County, widow of Fielding NEAL, decd now if there should be no lawful cause to _________ the marriage intended to be solemnized between the above named persons then this obligation to be void remain in full force. The conditions of the above obligation is such that the above bound James M. LONG is about to obtain a license to marry Elizabeth NEAL of Oldham county, daughter of Fielding NEAL Decd., now guardian said Marshall NEAL assenting personally. Now if there should be no lawful cause to obstruct the marriage intended to be solemnized between the above named persons, then this obligation to be void, else to remain in full force. Signed by J. M. LONG and M. NEAL and Attest: B. HOPKINS. TO ANY MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL legally authorized to celebrate the rites of Matrimony: You are hereby authorized to join together in holy wedlock, according to the usages and customws of your church, Mr. James M. Beginning at a Dogwood stump barnes to said LONG, thence N20 W69 poles to a swamp ash and Walnut, thence S70 W57 poles to a stone corner to LONG.
